Video: Richard Gregory Introduces SAScon

Monday, April 19, 2010 By: PushON

With SAScon just over a week away, we have decided to bring you a mini-series of short videos that introduce SAScon and explain more about what will be happening on the day.

In our first video, Chief Operating Officer at Latitude Richard Gregory introduces SAScon. If you haven’t yet booked your ticket, make sure you grab yours before they are sold out.

More videos will be appearing here this week, but you can also follow them on the SAScon YouTube channel.

The following is a guest post from Alex Moss

Working as an SEO Manager in-house can have its pros and cons. One main con is that sometimes you can feel detached from the rest of the SEO community. This is obviously helped by such things as the monthly #mancseo meetup and am proud to be part of the Manchester SEO community, but this is simply not enough! Conventions are now becoming more relevant to any SEO whether you’re in-house or in an agency, with SAScon being the frontrunner of these conventions.

So, why am I attending?
Personally, I am attending SAScon in order to broaden the scope of knowledge throughout the whole of SEO. Whether it be the best ways to improve conversion rates or a white hat tweaks to HTML code, everything covered within this convention will be relevant to any SEO strategy. This is particularly useful for me as it will help large scale projects for my employers, but also gives me insight as an SEO consultant when working freelance for smaller projects at Pleer SEO and Web Design.

It’s Not Just Good for SEO, it’s Good for Business:
28th April will bring lots of handshakes. Working in-house brings the benefit that I have to outsource certain work. SAScon will be good for the simple fact that if someone is attending then their business is taking SEO seriously. As well as this, I may meet someone who wants SEO consultancy on a freelance basis. So, for me, this is a win-win situation for everyone!

Why should You Attend?
If you’ve read this far, you’re most likely already attending or interested in attending. If you’re interested in attending then you should think about it as SAScon is going to give you a better outlook on search engines, the way they react to your online business and how you can increase sales by improving your web site. Let’s face it, when it comes to social media for example, it’s easy to create a twitter profile or a Facebook page, but mastering how to use them to your advantage is an art that changes from company to company is a challenge that SAScon will help you conquer.

Why I must go to SASCON!

The following is a guest post from Gareth Hoyle

SASCON is the UK’s leading Search Marketing conference, meaning anyone who’s anyone in the search engine optimisation (SEO) industry will be there; including me!
Ever-changing industry
As my company supplies SEO link building services to clients from all over the UK, I felt it was imperative that I showed my face at such a large SEO Manchester event. With the SEO industry constantly changing and evolving with new trends, techniques and tools, an event like SASCON couldn’t be more important.
The event will host many of the world’s experts in SEO, analytics and social media marketing – providing an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to learn (if you’re not, you’re in the wrong business!) from your peers about real time search, social media (Facebook, Twitter etc.) and analytics. After all, the search engines don’t tell us how they work!
Many inexperienced search engines optimisers don’t realise the fact that knowing who, when and how users are using your site is just as important as driving traffic to the site in the first place!
Relationship building
Attending such a prestigious event gives me the opportunity to meet potential new customers; a client who owns a SEO company and wants to take advantage of our outstanding SEO link building services!  With online advertising jumping ahead of traditional offline methods in popularity, a greater percentage of advertising budgets are being spent on digital endeavours – and attending an event like this offers me the chance to get a bigger slice of the pie!
I’ve already touched on social media, but I felt it deserved another mention! Having firmly established its place alongside other genuine online marketing strategies, social media is providing a valuable tool for many businesses looking to drive visitors and increase website rankings.
I’m sure it’ll be a cracking event, especially as there will be plenty of social and networking opportunities with the Manchester SEO community and even a drinks and comedy night!

I have been lucky enough to be working with a fine blend of internet marketers over the last few months with developing SAScon – what’s to be a truly excellent search, analytics and social media conference in Manchester, UK.  This blend has included, search and social pro’s with a real conviction to add value to businesses looking to learn the real depths of activating online marketing campaigns.  Really cool indeed.

So I wanted to introduce SAScon a little more and tell you why I think 28th April is going to be 2010′s conference to attend…

Manchester, UK & International

SAScon is a not-for-profit conference delivering the very best insights in to search, analytics and social media for those based in Manchester, the UK and well beyond.  Supported by SEMPO and Manchester Digital, it’s geared-up for those organisations looking to learn to operate more effectively online, and for search, analytics and social media marketing professionals looking to get an edge in their field.

We can honestly say that the line-up for SAScon is one that will truly capture a Manchester, UK and international audience.  For those not looking to spend a wedge at a conference this year, then I think SAScon could be just the thing for you.

Speakers

As a start-up conference, we’ve been hugely fortunate to get the support of internationally renowned speakers that we have.  To highlight the kind of calibre of speakers that will be attending, here are just a few names (more to be announced):

  • Joost de Valk / Yoast – a hugely well regarded developer of SEO tools and widgets, and recently established Orange Valley online marketing.
  • Fantomaster / Ralph Tegtmeier – a prolific SEO tool developer, often associated with what some might describe as the darker arts of SEO.  Will be an exciting session!
  • Richard Gregory – Chief Operating Officer for Latitude Group, a leading European, digital agency.
  • Massimo Burgio – a founding member of SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organisation), and Chief Strategist for Global Search Interactive.
  • Jon Myers – Head of Search at MVi, the online marketing arm of the Mediavest Group.

What makes a conference truly excellent?

As most know, conferences can be hit or miss.  Being organised by a co-op of search and social specialists, veterans of the conference speaking circuit and people that manage teams devoted to digital marketing prowess, buying a ticket for SAScon puts you in very safe hands indeed.

For me, what makes a conference truly excellent are three clear things:

  • The speakers create the substance and the take-aways.
  • Networking opportunities adds the fluidity, the business opportunities and even a few friends.
  • And the delivery makes the day easy to attend, learn and enjoy yourself.

…the SAScon programme of events will tick these three and some, and personally, I can’t wait!  28th April, will certainly be a date to remember.

SAScon: An uncompromising, not-for-profit, Co-op

One of the very best things about being involved in SAScon has been working on a not-for-profit, cross-agency project…where commercial interests have been muted as part of developing a conference that is for the greater good.

Meet the co-op of organisers on Twitter:

This means that UK and international businesses get to attend a genuine, value-adding conference organised by search and social professionals…what a great way to start a new decade of internet marketing.

If you have any ambition to achieve the very best in online marketing, then this is the conference you need to be at. This is not a conference arranged by a commercial organisation. It’s a conference arranged by the industry for the industry. Our focus is not revenue generation, it is to be the very best, most useful search conference in Europe. Any profit from the conference will be invested back into the industry in the locality that supports us.

We are fortunate to have support from the online marketing industry in the UK. Including:

Latitude Group

PushON

MediaVest

Mediaedge:cia

I Spy Marketing

Vanilla Storm

The organisation has been brought together via Manchester Digital, the trade body for Digital Industry in the North West of the UK. We are also very fortunate to be working with SEMPO who will be bring the best speakers from the US and Europe to the event.

We’ve put a lot of thought into this event. As well as the learning and sharing, there will be many social opportunities. Manchester is one of Europes great cities; the home of the computer, the home of social reform and the home to many great bars.

We’ll add more information regularly. Book early, this will sell out quickly!
